Q: What are the Licensing Steps in Connecticut?

Step 1: Complete a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance. We recommend using ExamFX. Once you have completed your course, ExamFX will issue a certificate of completion which you may download and print from your online ExamFX account.

Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, Prometric. The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at Prometric. You can also schedule your exam over the phone at (800) 341-3257.

Examination fee is $54 for single line exams and $79 for dual line exams.

To change of cancel your testing appointment, you must contact Pearson VUE at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you register for ExamFX prelicensing courses, schedule your license exam, and/or apply for your license it is important to use the same name that appears on the identification forms you plan to present at the time of your testing appointment.

Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment you must bring with you one valid form of government issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.), which must contain your photograph. You must also bring with you your certificate of completion. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.

Once you have completed your examination you will be made aware of your results.

Q: What do I do if my health insurance license has expired in Connecticut?

To reinstate the license for up to one (1) year after the expiration date, you will be required to complete the CE requirement (Residents Individuals Only) and pay a late fee of $160, for a total of $320.00.

After one (1) year, residents will be required to complete pre-licensing education course and pass the exam, prior to submitting the reinstatement application. To submit the application, go to National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. Select “Apply for License.” The reinstatement fee is $140.00 plus the NIPR transaction fee.

Q: What do I do for Continuing Education to keep my health insurance license in Connecticut?

Residents:

If you hold Property/Casualty, Personal Lines, Life, or Health authority, you must complete 24 continuing education credits to renew.
It is recommended that you complete your CE requirement 2 months prior to your expiration date.
Make sure you have completed all requirements outlined on your transcript. The “status” must read “Compliant” for all categories.
You may not “drop” a line of authority – the authority held at the beginning of the current license period determines the CE requirement for that license period.
If you have completed your CE course(s) and the information is not showing on your transcript, contact the vendor you took the course with directly.

Non-residents:

You are not required to complete continuing education credits in Connecticut.
