Q: What are the Licensing Steps in Utah?

Step 1 (optional): Complete an optional prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam. We recommend using ExamFX.

Step 2: Schedule your exam online with your state’s testing provider, Prometric. You may also schedule over the phone at (888) 226-8740. Your exam may be taken at a physical Prometric examination center or via a remote online proctored exam.

**If you need to reschedule your exam, you must do so at least 24 hours prior to your testing appointment or you will forfeit your examination fee.

Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment you must bring with you a valid form of government issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.), one of which must contain a photograph and a signature. (if not you must present two identification cards: one with your photo and one with your signature). You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.

Security measures are taken for all testing methods. Restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced. If you pass, you will receive a successful score report. If you do not pass, you will receive a report indicating your strengths and weaknesses by examination type.

**Be aware that the state of Utah requires license candidates to submit fingerprints to the Department of Insurance.

A renewal reminder letter is sent to every licensee’s business email address on file with the department about 90 days prior to the license expiration date. Renewals are required to be completed electronically at www.sircon.com/utah or www.nipr.com. Q: What do I do if my health insurance license has expired in Utah?

After one year past license expiration date, applicant must reinstate through the Resident License (RL) Application. Applicant cannot renew or reinstate license day one (1) through day three (3) after expiration date.  Applicant with a resident Utah license in an active or inactive status may not late renew electronically if status reason is canceled, deceased, denied, revoked, failure to maintain or surrendered in lieu of admin. Applicants with the following status reasons may apply through initial applications at any time electronically: canceled.

Q: What do I do for Continuing Education to keep my health insurance license in Utah?

CE Guidelines

Agents and adjusters in Utah must take 24 hours of continuing education each two (2) year renewal period, three (3) of the 24 hours being in ethics. The license renewal date is two (2) years at the end of the licensee’s birth month. All CE must be completed before submitting the renewal application.

Title producers must complete 12 hours of continuing education each two (2) year renewal period, three (3) of the 12 hours being in ethics. 50% of the required hours must be completed in certified classroom or classroom equivalent courses.

Repeat Courses

A course may not be taken more than once in any 2-year license renewal period.

Approved Courses

Producers MUST complete at least 50% (12 hours) of their required CE in certified classroom or classroom equivalent courses. Up to 12 hours of CE may be completed with self-study courses. Utah producers can take CE courses in any line of authority. Three (3) of the 24 hours must be in ethics.

Non-Resident Producers

If you have satisfied the continuing education requirements of your home state, Utah will consider that as satisfaction of the continuing education requirements.
